What is a prepainted steel coil?

The prepainted steel coil is also called color coated steel sheet coil or color coated steel coil. It is an organic coating applied to the steel sheet before it is processed and formed. It uses a continuous, automated, and extremely efficient process to paint both sides of the metal at high speed at the same time. Because the color of the coating is different, a color pre-coated steel coil is formed.

Manufacturing process

• A prepared steel coil is a product obtained by chemically treating (coating) the surface of a hot-dip galvanized steel sheet, galvalume steel, or aluminum sheet, and then baking and curing.
• The total thickness of the prepainted steel coil is composed of base steel-coating-primer-topcoat-protective layer thickness.
• Among them, PPGI (Pre-Painted Galvanized Steel) is also called pre-coated galvanized steel coil and color-coated steel coil, which has a hot-dip galvanized steel sheet substrate.

1. Manufacturing process

2) The prepainted steel coil is made of Cold rolled steel coil, hot-dip galvanized sheet, aluminum-coated sheet, zinc-aluminum alloy sheet, stainless steel sheet as the base material, and organic coating is applied on the surface.

2. Performance characteristics

1) The prepainted steel coil has good coloring, corrosion resistance, and decorative properties. Its service life is better than that of ordinary steel coils. It can achieve a variety of colors and texture effects, such as imitation wood grain, stone grain, metal grain, etc.

What is SMP? 

SMP refers to silicone-modified polyester coating, which is one of the coatings used by Wanzhi Steel. This coating can maintain the service life of steel coils for 10-12 years.

It is developed using a mixture of polyester and silicone reagents. The role of silicone is to improve the light retention and weather resistance of the polyester coating.

Generally speaking, the higher the silicone content, the better the performance of the coating.

What are the types of coatings?

• Polyester (PE):

Polyester coatings are widely used due to their good weather resistance, chemical resistance, and processing properties.
